Déjà Vu, Plus Something New Familiar Theme Plus a New Record and a Retirement
SANTA CLARA -- Game 4 could have gone a number of ways, but it seemed destined to go only one, and that’s the way it went. After a walk-off hit by the Numb Nutz in game 1, they then laid waste to The McGillicuttys in Game 2. Well in game 3 the McGillicuttys had a walk off of their own, a HR. So game 4 was predicted by many to be a blow out for the McGillicuttys. I guess you can’t mess with destiny. This wouldn't be the only incident to happen again.
NumbNutz 4, Cav's McGillicuttys...15 Series tied at 2-2
Not even the Max factor could save the struggling players on the Nutz side of the field. Not only did they score a season low 4 runs, but also played uncharacteristically poor defense. Things were close in the beginning: it was 1-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th. In that inning, 1B Stauffer failed to squeeze a Lynas throw that would have been the final out, and a few batters later Ledee punished the Nutz with a 3-run homer that landed in the backstop near the playground behind the LF fence. In all, the Cutz scored 5 that inning. In the 6th inning, the Nutz got breaks of their own when Collins' throwing error, a failed DP turned on Stauffer and Sacramento's missed foul tip led to two runs. That made it 6-3 Cutz. In the bottom half, with Ledee pitching missiles to Manning and Kuzmiak, both men smacked 6th pitch doubles to plate another Cutz run. The score remained 7-3 thru the top of the 8th as the Nutz' offensive struggles continued...they'd endured three 1-2-3 innings and two others where only 4 men batted. A Brandon Hamilton-esque shift on Stauffer rendered him ineffective. One NumbNut felt there "were ten men on the field" in regards to the Cutz' defense. Only the Cutz' own hitting inconsistencies were keeping the Nutz in the game...until the bottom of the 8th. Every McGillicutty contributed to this one: Simas doubled twice, Sacramento and Kuzmiak contributed doubles of their own, and Ledee and Collins capped off an 8-run explosion with back-to-back no-doubt bombs to left-center field to hammer the final nails in the Nutz' coffins. The Nutz went into the 9th hoping to at least not break the season-low run total of 6 set by the Cutz in Game Two...but could not manage to even do that. Game 2 Well, this game begins and ends with one phrase…”Watch Me!” Only a few members of the league had to take off, so an exhibition game was to take place. It would be a 6 on 5 game with Cav (Mets) taking on Kevin (Yankees) in a rematch of the Subway Series. I will save most of the game details because the game only lasted 2 innings. The main event was what happened in the 2nd inning. Skillz struck out swinging with one out in the bottom of the 2nd, he then proceeded to fling the bat into right field. Then he shouted, “I quit!” and headed to the dugout to retrieve his things. Some members of the league implored him to stay, “You can’t quit!” to which Skillz replied “Watch Me!” And in less than a minute he was in his car and on his way home. The scene was very reminiscent of a game last season went Skillz abandoned his team mid-game. After that game Skillz announced his retirement only to be persuaded back the following week. This time may be different as Skillz has once again retired and added, "for good this time." The shocking event that just transpired took its toll on the remaining players and they all decided to end the game there, thus making it the shortest game in BAB history.
