2006: Out with a Bang

Ryan Ledee ends the 2006 season with a walk-off home run

SAN JOSE -- The 2006 BAD ASS Baseball season came to a close with fifteen BAD ASSes showing up at Piedmont Hills High School, the highest turnout for the final game of a season. Rob Flores and Leland Yow, two of BAB's forefathers were named captains. Instead of the traditional method of selecting teams, the two captains tried to divide the teams as evenly as possible. The result was an extra inning game with a dramatic ending.

The Washingtons jumped out to an early 11-2 lead after dropping 8 runs on the Lincolns in the 4th. The majority of their runs came from the long ball. Bush, Andraesen, Simas, Matsui, and Trinh all went deep on the varsity baseball field. Some of those players used Ledee's bat, which he would hide the remainder of the game.

The Washingtons would go scoreless over the next 4 innings as the Lincolns crawled their way back to tie the game at 11 after 8 innings of play. Bush hit his second home run of the game to help the Washingtons get the lead back in the 9th. Bernal went deep in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game again and set the stage for the 10th and final inning of the season.

Matsui and Trinh hit back to back home runs to give the Washingtons a 15-13 lead. Sacramento, Minor, and Yow led off the bottom of the bottom of the frame with consecutive singles to load the bases. Manning followed with a fly out to center, but Sacramento scored after tagging up from 3rd base. The league's leading home run hitter, Ledee added to his total by ending the season with a walk-off 3-run home run.

GAME NOTES:

  • BAD ASS of the Day went Ledee and Manning. Ledee finished 6 for 7 with 3 home runs, including the game winner. Manning also hit 3 homers and had a game high 8 RBIs.

  • Home runs and the laid down fence were once again the center of controversy. Simas hit a deep fly that landed in the gap between two of the laid down fences. After a quick discussion, he was awarded a home run. Matsui leaped and caught a ball at the fence hit by Ledee. However, Matsui's feet were said to have been on the fence when he leaped for the ball, negating his nice catch and Ledee was given the homer.

  • After the game, Manning called out his McGillicuttys team and presented them their Game 7 Championship rings.

  • Bush's 2 home runs were his first of the season.

  • Manning was the only Iron Man of the season, playing in all 34 games. He also earned that title in 2003 and 2005.

  • Fifteen players was by far the biggest turnout for a season finale. 2003 and 2004 had 11 participants, while 2005 had 10.

  • Absent from the game was Soonam Chowdhury who could not find a ride to the game in time. Kevin Kuzmiak was in Tennessee for a funeral. Joe Davis still sulking over his no-hit, 3-K performance from the prior week, did not want to play. His lack of heart and resilience earned him the final Small Penis of the season.

  • Awards Ballots have been sent out and are due on Sunday by 6 PM.

  • The Awards Banquet will be held on September 16. Stand by for more details. LY
